INVESTIGATION OF ASPHERIC OPTHALMOSCOPY LENSES
FROM JAPAN (A-588-819)


1.The Department of Commerce published in the Federal Register
on October 15, 1991, notice of its preliminary determination that
aspheric ophthalmoscopy lenses (lenses) from Japan are being, or
are likely to be, sold in the United States at less than fair
value.

2.The products covered by this investigation are aspheric
ophthalmoscopy lenses, which are single element non-contact
ophthalmoscopy lenses, whether mounted or unmounted, framed or
unframed, of which one or both surfaces are aspherical in shape.
The subject merchandise is classifiable under subheading
9018.50.00 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS). Although the
HTS number is provided for convenience and customs purposes, our
written description of the scope of this proceeding is
dispositive.

3. For further reporting purposes this case has been assigned
investigation number A-588-819.

4. For exports of lenses from Japan by Nikon Corporation and all
other companies, the Customs Service shall suspend liquidation of
such lenses that are entered or withdrawn from warehouse on or
after October 15, 1991, and shall require a cash deposit or the
posting of a bond equal to the estimated preliminary margin
percentages listed below.
