Dear Mr. Murphy:
In your letter dated December 21, 2001, on behalf of Chippenhook Corporation, you requested a tariff classification ruling for jewelry rolls.
The samples submitted are identified as style numbers 63020-893 and 63034. The items are tri-fold jewelry rolls designed for the safe transport and protection of earrings and rings. Both items are manufactured with an exterior and interior surface of man-made fiber textile materials. The interior of each roll contains padded textile bars, a zippered compartment and/or a strip of material with holds designed to contain rings, earrings and/or both. Style 63020-893 measures approximately 2” x 4 ¾” x 1 ½” in its closed position and it is secured by means of a metal snap fastener. Style 63034 measures approximately 9 ¼” x 5 ¾” x 1 ½” in its closed position and it is secured by means of a hook and loop fastener. Your samples are being returned as requested.
The applicable subheading for jewelry rolls will be 4202.92.9026, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for trunks, suitcases… jewelry boxes and similar containers, other, other, of man-made fibers. The rate of duty will be 18.1 percent ad valorem.
