RE: The tariff classification of gloves from Italy.

Dear Mr. Morony:

In your letter received December 6, 2001, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The provided samples will be returned as per your request.

Style 18224 is a tight fitting glove with a palmside from fingertips to wrist constructed of a plastic coated knitted fabric. The backside of the glove is made of a knitted laminate fabric. The glove features fourchettes and a vented 2-1/4 inch wide cuff constructed of neoprene sandwiched between finely knitted fabric which is secured by hook and loop fasteners. The glove will be available in additional colors as styles 18225, 18226, 18227 and 18228. The glove shows design for use in the sport of bicycling.

The applicable subheading for the gloves will be 6116.10.0800, HTS, which provides for Gloves, mittens and mitts, knitted or crocheted: impregnated, coated or covered with plastics or rubber: other gloves, mittens and mitts, all the foregoing specially designed for use in sports, including ski and snowmobile gloves, mittens and mitts. The rate of duty will be 3.6 percent ad valorem. In 2002, the rate of duty will be 3.3 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
