RE: The tariff classification of a pressure switch from China
Dear Ms. Andrade:
In your letter dated December 5, 2025, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The merchandise under consideration is identified as the T25-3711 Pressure Switch. The device is comprised
of a diaphragm and spring within an enclosure, with electrical connectors at each end. The subject switch is
meant to be used within the airflow component of an HVAC system. When air passes through the switch at
the appropriate pressure, the diaphragm moves and closes the electrical contacts within, allowing for the flow
of electricity. When the pressure is not correct, the diaphragm does not move in the necessary way, forcing
the electrical circuit to stay open. This breaks the flow of electricity, thus not allowing the system to
function.
The applicable subheading for the T25-3711 Pressure Switch will be 8536.50.9065, Harmonized Tariff
Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Electrical apparatus for switching or protecting
electrical circuits, or for making connections to or in electrical circuits (for example, switches, relays, fuses,
surge suppressors, plugs, sockets, lamp-holders and other connectors, junction boxes), for a voltage not
exceeding 1,000 V; connectors for optical fibers, optical fiber bundles or cables: Other switches: Other:
Other: Other.” The general rate of duty will be Free.
The duties cited above are current as of this ruling’s issuance. Duty rates are provided for your convenience
and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided
at https://hts.usitc.gov/.
This ruling does not address the applicability of any additional duties, taxes, fees, exactions and/or other
charges, which may apply to the goods discussed herein. This includes, but is not limited to, tariffs and other
duties as provided for in Subchapter III to Chapter 99, HTSUS. Thus, for example, in addition to the
classification stated above, the merchandise covered by this ruling may also need to be reported with either
the Chapter 99 provision under which an additional tariff applies or one of the Chapter 99 provisions
covering exceptions to such tariffs.
