RE: The tariff classification of a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard from South Korea

Dear Ms. Park:

In your letter dated September 14, 2015, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The merchandise under consideration is referred to as the “LG Rolly Keyboard.” This Bluetooth-enabled wireless portable keyboard, measuring approximately 10 inches wide by 1 inch high by 1 inch deep, is described as having the QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard is stated to be designed for use with a smartphone or a tablet and is compatible with iOS, Android, and Windows devices. A notable feature of this device is its ability to fold up, or roll, for storage when not in use.

This office finds that this keyboard satisfies the conditions set forth in Chapter 84, Note 5(C) (ii) and (iii), Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which requires that the keyboard be connectable to the central processing unit either directly or through one or more other units, and be able to accept or deliver data in a form (codes or signals) which can be used by the system, respectively.

The applicable subheading for the Bluetooth-enabled keyboard will be 8471.60.2000, HTSUS, which provides for Automatic data processing machines and units thereof; …: Input or output units, whether or not containing storage units in the same housing: Other: Keyboards. The rate of duty will be Free.

Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Karl Moosbrugger at [email protected].
