RE: The tariff classification of motor parts from an undetermined country of origin
Dear Ms. Turvold:
In your letter dated September 13, 2013, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The merchandise under consideration are non-grain oriented silicon electrical steel laminations. These items are punched into laminations for electrical stator/rotor manufacturing. They are fully heat treated for optimal magnetic properties. The coating is suited to Hermetic motor applications requiring improved resistance to corrosion and Freon refrigerant gas and oils.
The applicable subheading for the non-grain oriented silicon electrical steel laminations will be 8503.00.9520 , Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for "Parts suitable for use solely or principally with the machines of heading 8501 or 8502: Other: Other: Parts of motors". The rate of duty will be 3%.
Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Benjamin Peleg at (646) 733-3015.
Sincerely,
