RE: The tariff classification of Venlafaxine Hydrochloride Extended Release Capsules (CAS-99300-78-4), imported in dosage form, from India
Dear Ms. Scott:
In your letter dated October 19, 2011, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The subject product, Venlafaxine Hydrochloride Extended Release Capsules contains the active ingredient, Venlafaxine Hydrochloride, an antidepressant of the serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) class. It is indicated for the treatment of depression and general anxiety disorder.
The applicable subheading for the Venlafaxine Hydrochloride Extended Release Capsules imported in dosage form will be 3004.90.9135, HTSUS, which provides for “Medicaments … consisting of mixed or unmixed products for therapeutic or prophylactic uses, put up in measured doses … or in forms or packings for retail sale: Other: Other: Other: Medicaments primarily affecting the central nervous system: Antidepressants, tranquilizers, and other psychotherapeutic agents.” The rate of duty will be free.
