RE: The tariff classification of rear projection digital video projectors from Canada
Dear Mr. Nowak:
In your letter dated October 11, 2011, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The merchandise under consideration is rear projection digital video projectors, models RPMSP-LED01, RPMWU-LED01, RPMX-D132U, RPMSP-D132U, and RPMSP-D180U. All of these projectors are digital light processing (DLP) types using one digital micromirror device (DMD), with a video diagonal display of 2.25 cm, to produce the complete visible image. These multimedia projectors are designed for use in video wall display cubes, which are usually arranged in arrays in control room environments. The images projected can be real-time video or recorded video; however, these projectors do not contain any inbuilt video recording or reproducing apparatus.
The applicable subheading for these video projectors will be 8528.69.4500, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Monitors and projectors, not incorporating television reception apparatus…Projectors: Other: Color: With a flat panel screen: Other: With a video display diagonal not exceeding 34.29 cm. The rate of duty will be Free.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
