RE: The tariff classification of a set of button extenders from Taiwan.
Dear Ms. Ramsey:
In your letter dated February 28, 2008, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The button extenders, SCU #65280, are a set of three (small, medium and large) aluminum buttons with an extender loop. The extender loop is made from a coil of stainless steel that has a thread of aluminum that runs through the coil. This loop attaches to a waistband or collar button and the metal button is used for closing the garment. Two buttons can be attached together for “extra comfort.”
The applicable subheading for the set of metal button extenders will be 9606.22.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for buttons, press-fasteners, snap-fasteners and press-studs, button molds and other parts of these articles; button blanks: buttons: of base metal, not covered with textile material. The rate of duty will be free.
Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Kathy Campanelli at 646-733-3021.
