RE: The tariff classification of two polyester monofilament screen printing fabrics from China.

Dear Mr. Chen:

In your letter dated October 2, 1995, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

Two representative samples were submitted, a white and a yellow, designated Mesh #100 and Mesh #230. Both materials are finely woven in construction and are composed of 100% polyester man-made fiber monofilament yarns. The mesh designations 100 and 230, respectively, refer to the number of openings per linear inch of material. These two fabrics are principally used in the silk screen printing industry.

The applicable subheading for the two materials will be 5911.20.1000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for bolting cloth, ... fabrics principally used for stenciling purposes in screen-process printing. The rate of duty will be 6.2 percent ad valorem.

This merchandise does not have a textile category designation and, therefore, is not subject to any kind of textile restraints.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist George Barth at 212-466-5884.

Sincerely,
